What is an 'aperture'?

An 'aperture' is technically an opening. This term is used frequently to refer to the lens of a camera, the aperture, the apparatus through which we see and snap a photograph.

Our eyes, our soul, our experiences, our families of origin, our personalities are the apertures through which we see and interpret the world. We can each look at the same object, scene, or person but see something completely different. Even slight differences can change everything. Learning to paint or to capture a moment in a photograph is about learning to see and to translate what is seen into a physical form.

Each of us has an aperture, an opening through which we see the world, and art is a way of transferring your specific translation to the world for others to see and appreciate.
